Now, here’s a Lambo that I like – the 2008 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640. Car reviews have stricken this car labeling it as way past it’s times and overly heavy, but there’s something else to this wild bull that has caught my attention. It has enough firepower to blow away the the Porsche 911GT2.
It’s like a flow. It’s so fluid even when standing still. I’m afraid its fluidity will suck me in. It has got to be those smooth lines which hide its immense power. It’s has a reverberating power that simply sucks you in while staring at it.
There’s pretty much nothing to say about the LP640. Or rather, there are no words to express the feeling that engulfs you as the LP640’s doors await your coming. Its passivity is so bothering. It’s visual silence so deafening. It’s like a bat that hears and feels everything around it.
And it’s terrifyingly fast. Even seasoned drivers would think twice about putting it into Sports mode. There’s a fear that doing so will shake your body into nothing but subatomic particles. You have to be a pretty good driver when parking the LP640 because it has got no rear-view camera unlike the Gallardo.
Its interior is calmingly simple, without much luxury amenities to make you feel like riding a limousine. There is no manual shift stick, only shift paddles. You go into reverse with a push of a button. It looks as if every function of the LP640 has been reduced to a push of a button. Batman’s alterego would love this car. It only has enough cabin space to make out with one, no two supermodels.
Don’t even think of driving this wild bull in traffic. It’ll be like trying to cross a high-wire with a wild bull. It’s simply almost impossible. This car was born to drive fast, terrifyingly fast. Even the steering won’t respond unless you gun its massive engine. It’ll feel like pushing a log in the forest with your bare hands.
The LP640 comes with an immensely-necessary set of carbon-ceramics disk brakes if you’re willing to shelf out $16,250. Think of it as life insurance instead of an investment. One thing annoyingly problematic about its electronic gearbox is that it might automatically downshift at crucial points when you don’t want it to. You’d have to be an expert in weight shifting unless you want your brains to spill out of your ears and nostrils. With the carbon-ceramics brakes, the LP640 has enough braking power to pop your eyes out.
This car is way beyond other supercars’ league. It’s grazing well into the territory of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Pur Sand and Koenigsegg CCXR Edition. I don’t think there’s a prancing horse that can rival with this, except maybe for the Ferrari FXX, which is developed on a daily basis.
The LP640 turns on a dime, even with its small steering wheel. Its steering is relaxed in a sinister kind of way. The moment you floor the gas, it’s like having your life shine before your eyes. It’s like being left at the starting spot and seeing the LP640 blast into infinity. The LP640 does 0 to 60 mpg with its 1st gear alone. What more with top gear?
What words can I use to summarize the LP640? I think ‘stargate’ is more like it. Its immense power will suck you into the center of the Universe and back out again. Overall, the LP640 is more like an out of body experience. Like a nightmare and a dream mixed together. I’m convinced. It’s now third on my list of super Euros.
