Is there anything better than a Lamborghini LP560-4 Gallardo? A tuned one, of course! And Reiter Engineering has just the stuff for all you Gallardo owners out there.
As most Lambo fans would know, the company does not produce official racecars. They prefer to keep their buyers on the streets. For some odd reason, they refuse to submit their cars to the rigors of real racing. And for that, I can’t really give them credit against their arch rival, Ferrari, which embodies racing passion in its purest.
Well, anyway. Since Lamborghini is too frail to go into motorsports, Reiter Engineering does it for them. This German company has been tuning race-ready machines for various racing events in Europe, such as the Le Mans Series. And their latest project, this raging Gallardo, is set to compete in the GT2 class series.
True to the spirit of racing, the four-wheel drivetrain of the production version was stripped for a rear-wheel drive. Its engine was also tuned down from 560 hp down to 500 hp to meet GT2 rules. Tedious weight modifications were made to the Gallardo, known for its poor aerodynamics at top speed. The production version actually lifts when nearing its maximum speed. Reiter’s version now weighs 1125 kg, as per GT2 regulations, which makes for great power-to-weight ratio and handling. It’s interesting to see how it fares to the Porsches in Le Mans, which are likewise German of origin.
