The Mercedes-Benz Concept BlueZERO

When it comes to going Eco on your car, the luxury of choice is what the Mercedes-Benz Concept BlueZERO provides customers in the near future.

The BlueZERO was displayed in the last 2009 Detroit Auto Show. And as a testament to the signs of the times, Mercedes-Benz has presented its own solution to the problem of getting more mileage, less fuel consumption and more environment-friendly car designs.

The Mercedes-Benz Concept BlueZERO has three options for its power source: the electric cell, fuel cell, and the hybrid option. The nice thing about it is that whichever option you select, you will still get the same 100 km/h in less than 11 seconds. No need to wrack your brains about whether a choice would mean a compromise in performance.  You can Just go with the option that’s most available to your area and easiest for you to maintain.

The electric cell option provides you with liquid-cooled, lithium-ion batteries for a power source. About mileage, it lists 200 kilometers as it’s distance output on a full charge. For a half-hour charge, you can cover 50 km, and for a one-hour charge just double that and you get a hundred. Charging is easy as it can be charged on 220 outlet and the total charge time is two hours.

For the fuel cell option, the output is 400 kilometers.

The hybrid option seems nifty: on the batteries it can register 100 kilometers, when it runs out, the 1-liter gas engine will then start up and act as a generator to the battery. All in all, the hybrid option can bring in 600 kilometers before it runs out of gas or juice.

As concept car goes, we just have to wait until it becomes a reality. But we have to keep our fingers crossed as it does offer a viable solution to the problems of fuel efficiency and emission reduction. We just have to hope that Mercedes-Benz can back up its concept car and make it into a reality.
